Forensic Interviews:

Child Friendly - Research Based - Developmentally Appropriate
A team approach is used at CHCAC to ensure all services are coordinated and that the best interest of the children and families are represented. The interview is conducted by a CHCAC forensic interviewer who is specially trained and experienced in interviewing children for child abuse. The interview may be observed by a law enforcement investigator and/or child protection worker, and will be recorded.

Advocacy:
Support - Education - Healing
A Child and Family Advocate works closely with families, and will often meet with them during the child's interview. The advocate will answer any questions the family has, guide them through the process, and help connect them to needed resources.

Medical:
Specialized - Child Friendly
Some children may receive a medical examination by a pediatric healthcare provider who specializes in the evaluation of child abuse. The decision for a medical examination may be determined after the forensic interview is completed.

Multi-Disciplinary Investigation Support:  A key component of Child Advocacy Centers is the multi-disciplinary approach. Child Advocacy Centers emphasize the coordination of investigation and intervention services by bringing together professionals and agencies as a  multidisciplinary team to create a child-focused approach to child abuse cases. The centralized, team approach is designed from the child's point of view to help minimize the trauma of child abuse investigation and promote the healing process.

In response to child abuse allegations, the multi-disciplinary team includes representation from the following:

  • Law Enforcement
  • Child Protective Services
  • Prosecution
  • Mental Health Services
  • Medical Professionals
  • Victim Advocacy Services
  • Children's Advocacy Center
