The Greatest Gift – The Wise Ones’ Journey
Receives 2018 Illumination Book Award

South Dakota author/storyteller Tom Roberts and illustrator Jim Brummond were awarded the 2018 Illumination Book Award, Gold Medal in the Holiday Category, for their book The Greatest Gift – The Wise Ones’ Journey. With the motto “Shining a Light on Exemplary Christian Books,” the 5th Annual Illumination Book Awards are intended to honor the best books published during the past year with a Christian worldview.

The Illumination Book Awards are presented by publishing services company Jenkins Group, Inc. of Traverse City, Michigan. Gold, silver, and bronze medal awards are given in 19 categories. This year’s winners include self-published authors as well as some of the most respected names in publishing, hailing from 26 U.S. states and two Canadian provinces. Winners reflect on varied topics such as Christian “radicals,” building new churches in a more secular time, healing after addictions, and spiritual coloring books.

The Greatest Gift – The Wise Ones’ Journey is the fifth book in a collection of Christmas stories written by Roberts as a benefit for Children’s Home Society of South Dakota (CHS).

To date, Roberts’ books have raised over $1.2 million for the programs and services that CHS offers to children and families.

“I’m proud to have a story of mine recognized in this way and I hope that it continues to serve as both a positive Christmas message and as a means to raise awareness of the mission behind the tale – the mission of Children’s Home Society”, said Roberts.

Based on the journey of the Magi, Roberts’ parable creates a poetic perspective that invites children of all ages to consider their own journey and the valued gifts that they have to offer.
