Retirement Plan

  • To participate in the plan, an employee must complete one year of service with CHS, must be age 21 or older, and must be credited with 1,000 hours of service during the employee’s first year of employment.

  • After an employee meets the eligibility requirements, the employee will begin participation in the plan on the earlier of July 1 or January 1.

  • When an employee becomes a plan participant, an employee in the plan receives a contribution equal to 8% of an employee’s compensation, provided the employee completes more than 1,000 hours of service during the plan year.  The plan year begins on July 1 and ends on June 30.

  • Vesting, an employee’s earned right to a portion of or the full amount of the employees participation account, is based on years of service.  An employee becomes 100% vested after six years of credited service.  An employee will be credited upon completion of 1,000 hours of service during the plan year.

Tax Sheltered Account
Because you work for a qualifying tax-exempt organization, you can accumulate money for your retirement in a special tax-sheltered plan - a 403(b) Tax Sheltered Account.  You can establish an account with a bank, credit union, insurance agent, financial advisor, stockbroker, directly with a mutual fund company, etc.

Loan Cancellation and Deferment
“Providers or supervisors of the provision of services to high-risk children from low-income communities and their families” may qualify for loan cancellation and deferment of some federal Perkins, National Direct, and National Defense student loans.  Children's Home Society provides services to such high-risk children.  Based on job duties and responsibility, some full-time CHS employees may be eligible for loan cancellation and deferment.  For more information, contact your college/university financial aid or business office where you received your loan.
